The Lord often takes every one on their own individual journey towards healing and transformation. The following is a reflection that Braiden shared with our family group chat that we decided the Lord wanted us to share with all of you.
"Things happen in life and at times we fall victim to the hurt that gets transferred to us from other people. As the saying goes, hurt people hurt people. Unknowingly and unintentionally, we transfer the hurt we carry onto others, and it becomes a never ending cycle of transferring brokenness from one person to the next.
What then begins to happen is the hardening of our heart, and without knowing, a spirit of pride begins to rule our lives rooted in our victimhood. We are called to live with patience grace and kindness, yet we find ourselves in states of defensiveness and offense. All the while exemplifying a manifestation of pride when we justify our hurtful actions based on our own trauma, getting defensive when those around us make light of the hurt that we have received.
Without knowing it, the more hurt we hold onto, the more hurt we transfer. The problem is, we spend too much time looking at our horizontal axis; we look to other humans for validation. When in reality, we should be going to the Father, surrendering our hurt to Him, so that we can be a cause of change to break the cursed cycles of hurt transference. We go to God, not so that He can right the wrongs that were done to us. We go to God so that we can walk in the light that has already been created for us through the power of the cross, knowing that justice belongs to the Lord and vindication in Christ is all we need.
What gives us the right to be victims? We all have been victims to something or someone. But we can't stay there. We can try to justify our pain. But there's a standard we always will have to compare everything to, and that's Jesus. What if we always compared the wrongs we endure to the cross that Christ had to endure for us? While we wait for others to reconcile with us, we've made the mistake of exalting our hurt over the power of the cross. Shouldn't we be repenting for holding onto our hurt for too long, rather than pointing fingers and waiting around for those that hurt us to make things right? We bind and crush the spirit of pride and victimhood when we begin to live in our kingdom reality, realizing that we all have darkness reconciled by the blood of Jesus.
I personally have dishonored Christ and everything He has done on the cross. And as a family, I pray that we can walk in this supernatural call of forgiveness. We never minimize the pain we experience in life, but we have to choose to magnify the power of the cross that overcomes the pain."
